When Masumi, Nairobi’s Wildlife Direct Conservation Partnerships Officer, told me she would be in Rwanda, I was thrilled I would finally have the chance to meet her face to face – she always provides prompt and helpful advice by email – but I was looking forward to the opportunity to meeting her in person. Victor, WD Project Assistant, and Enoch, WD Albertine Rift Project Assistant, accompanied Masumi on her LOW carbon footprint bus and mutatu-ride throughout the Albertine Rift Valley.

Enoch, Victor and Masumi join Vince (AoC’s student agronomist) in the house/office garden.
I was just arriving back from the states and experiencing terrible internet connection – actually NO internet connection – despite the ‘upgrade’ I had had installed while I was away. Victor tried to help me, but it was fruitless. I am in a particularly precarious situation when it comes to tech support because I use Machintosh. Africa is the land of PC’s. Finally, I got in touch with an extremely helpful young man and after a few weeks of grumbling and frustration I had installed TODAY a completely new internet service and I am back on line…at least for now, let’s hope it holds!

Enoch and Masumi try to spot the beginnings of Calliandra, Jacaranda, and Grevillea seedlings in AoC’s sample garden. More on the garden in future posts.
It was wonderful meeting this part of the Wildlife Direct team and discussing ways to increase awareness and improve fundraising skills for our work in conservation and education. We look forward to the next visit.

Julie it was great to meet you! I loved the setup you had with the house/office. We had a very tiring but fruitful visit and now it’s onto some hard work. I hope you will be able to come down to visit us here in Nairobi, not nearly as exciting though. Please say a big hello to everyone.
