Peter Riger of the Houston Zoo came to Rwanda to spend time with AoC this week. He works with the zoo’s Wildlife Conservation Program, which supports conservation-based NGOs around the world. Peter joined the AoC team in classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and gave a wonderful presentation about the endangered species the Wildlife Conservation Program works with, including mountain gorillas.
Peter delights students with pictures of animals from around the world.
Kids squeal when they see pictures of frogs, but Peter assures them that frogs are harmless and more importantly that they are extremely important to our environment.
Everyone appreciates Peter’s help in the classroom. Rainforest, ishyamba rikurura imvura, is today’s new vocabulary word which Peter helps tape to the grass mat.
Back at the office, I ask Peter to tackle the Earthquakes & Volcanoes Experiment Kit in preparation to erupt volcanoes in classes – it sort of, kind of works.
Peter, thanks from all of us for sharing and helping. We look forward to your return.
